Unbelievable! Giant Eagle has announced it will stay open on Thanksgiving Day. Every other major retailer has announced they will not open on Thanksgiving Day for the safety of its employees and for the current pandemic.. Not Giant Eagle because they put profit before safety. I remember when Giant Eagle used to tell it’s employees what a horrible company Walmart is.. Two words can describe Giant Eagle... “Bottom Feeder”.

Oh, but what us really low is that the employees that work the holiday get a $1 a hour bonus! Yippee!
I bet the executives don’t even give one of the 33,000 “TEAM” Members so much as a thought while they stuff their faces with Thanksgiving Dinner served to them from “staff”.
And they know who they are... but for the rest of us “VALUED” “TEAM” Members, that’s pretty much anyone with a Director or higher title after their name.
Giant Eagle is the new Walmart when it comes to how they treat employees.. It has been for the last few years..
even Walmart is closed on thanksgiving yet we are open! basically Walmart treats their employees better than Giant Eagle! Isn’t that the same company (Walmart) who locked employees in a building after they punched out and wouldn’t let them leave till after their job was done for the night! Yet they are closed on thanksgiving!

I can absolutely assure you Giant Eagle is reading this and I mean absolutely reading it!!! There have been multiple conversations at the executive level saying stores should not even open departments on Thanksgiving unless they have people who voluntarily wanted to work Thanksgiving!!!!They also talk about how it’s a different day than it was for Easter and that retail employees should be appreciative of the company for ALLOWING us to work on holidays because they give a whopping fifty cents an hour or some poverty level bonus!!!The west VP said on some sort of call that if employees know what’s best for them, they will agree to work on Thanksgiving!!!Basically saying that managers should run stores like a convenience store because our customers don’t deserve or aren’t looking to buy fresh food on a holiday!!!!Excuse me?????
I can’t believe they even put someone in charge of his own lunch menu let alone a bunch of grocery stores in the buckeye state after hearing what he has to say about us and our customers how awful is that!!!!
Hey Giant Eagle if your listening... You are the worst. Your only opening on Thanksgiving to flex your muscle. So sad. A once nice company to work for has now turned into a s*%t show. Just look at all of the job openings that can’t be filled. Cutting and cutting labor to add to the already massive profits... And the executive who made the decision to open is a person with a past.. “oh did I say that”
They are only opening the Union Stores to piss the union off. Giant Eagle is mad that the Union made Giant Eagle enforce the mask policy in the Union locations. Giant Eagle is a very bitter company.
If an hourly employee calls off for a holiday, they loose holiday pay, which for some is 8 hours! Unfortunately they can’t afford to call off since that is a lot of money they stand to loose doing so.
Hard to believe they want to be open when all the other major retailers gave their employees off with closing Thanksgiving! Thinking back to Easter, they closed stores for that holiday, which isn’t even a recognized holiday (with holiday pay), yet decide to remain open for Thanksgiving?
Oh, and if they decide all the sudden to close for Thanksgiving after all the negative feedback, it won’t even be a kind jester since it’s nothing more than caving to the pressure. Plus, you already came out saying you’ll be open and people had to plan around that, so if you decide to close two weeks prior to Thanksgiving, it will be all for not. People have already planned around being open, so a “surprise” closing announcement won’t save your agenda quite frankly.
What a joke this company has become!
Only Giant Eagle would lay off hundreds of corporate employees only to rehire double that within 5 years, many who have VP or Director titles. Which oh by the way, how can someone be a Director or VP when they have no direct reports????? How can the company justify a Senior VP of car wash who only has one employee in the entire department, who also has a VP title? So, you have a VP (nobody underneath them) who answers to a Senior VP (who only has ONE reporting to them)?? Makes absolutely no sense other than to inflate corporate payroll! Once upon a time, in order to have a director title, you had to have a minimum of 10 direct reports! Today you can be a Senior VP with only one direct report? Cuz that makes clear sense!
I can honestly say, I typically understand why they do what they do, and won’t question their decisions quite frankly. Yet it’s things like this that make you wonder how much longer the ship can continue taking on water until it finally sinks?
Perhaps we should start another new program (similar to ROOT Map 2020, ROOT Map 1990’s, Blueprint, SWAT, Project Hello, Project Simplify, Office of Transformation, GEBS, Vision 2020, Vision 2040, workday, etc) and we can call it “Project Mayday”? Hopefully I’ll get the royalties & credit for the naming rights on this one??
This company has always been about keeping wages low and profits high. Call off on Thanksgiving. Organize a mass call off that day.
This is beyond reprehensible and nothing more that self-righteous, ungrateful And disrespectful to all the retail operations the worst, followed by the overwhelmed supply chain pushing out to stores. Meanwhile no consideration for these team members in any way despite their complete devotion during a lethal pandemic for the past 8 months while risking their lives, the lives of their family, the lives of their friends, all so you can have them working the Thanksgiving holiday?
How dare you Giant Eagle, how dare you indeed! I hope you all realize while sitting in your fabulous fox chapel mansion you so unethically “purchased” and used company “loss prevention” to help you move in the neighborhood safely from any black & white land birds similar to those living in Antarctica!
So sad you have no respect for the employees you say are “family”. So, your basically k–ling the same family that makes you rich and can’t even give them one holiday off with their family before they potentially get sick from exposure working for you!

They haven’t closed for thanksgiving in years. They saw earning potential from all of them customers doing last minute thanksgiving shopping and stopped closing the stores-then again you don’t make a whole lot working there to have a thanksgiving dinner, so you might as well show up. I also love how they cut your hours a week before the holidays to compensate for having to pay you holiday pay the following week so they don’t go over payroll, lol!
Why are you even surprised by this? Giant Eagle lives don't matter. And believe me I feel bad for the employees who work in the stores. Giant Eagle has been taking advantage of you for the last few years it's actually sad. Do you think payroll has been cut to help compete?? You should see what this company is making
