Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

Supplier Management BCA/ BDS/ BGS

When I used to travel on company business, I ate at fast food joints like McDonald's. Total food bill, maybe $20/day. My colleagues, on the other hand, would hit up all the five-star restaurants in the area, the steakhouses and the Italian places with the unpronounceable menu items. Never understood that, but maybe I'm just old school frugal.

We could save a fortune if we cut the travel Per diem to $20-30/per day. Let’s wake up and stop the exorbitant spending!

Let’s talk lodging why do you have employees staying at the Marriott, Hilton, Hampton Inn chains when traveling ? Boeing should only allow Super 6 and Days Inn motel type chains.

Marriott is 3 star and reasonably priced
It is bad when managers stay at 4 star hotels and spending 50 bucks or more on dinner with wine. I know of several in my org who would wine and dine and takk about the food and wine, esp when traveling abroad, even more extravagant. No ethics at all

I use to work for another company and they demanded/required employees stay at motels. It wa a cost savings initiative! Let me tell you about a particular experience I had! “Some of our staff stayed in a motel in Los Angeles. The pictures on the website were gorgeous. When our people arrived, there was bullet proof glass protecting staff in the lobby registration, a coffee pot and box of donuts for continental breakfast and gang fights in the parking lot at night. Oh yes … they were bitten by something in their room — not bed bugs, but some kind of rash from the soap or small biting bugs. NO REFUND sign greeted you at check in. There was no savings in this trip!!!”

@ Post ID: @hdn+17xiO78X ->. You used the verbiage “volunteer my time” perhaps you should review the Boeing Values and change that attitude!

You do know that Super 6 has a “My6 Loyalty Program” you can earn points. Super is clean and all have vending machines and some have laundry rooms we can do laundry. Extended Stay is not that bad.

Remember allot of our suppliers are already in the low cost lodging boat. So we all need to sacrifice!

BGS has NO supplier management. At Aviall in Dallas, the suppliers do what they want and call the shots, especially since alot of them never get paid on time, pretty sad for an operation with the Boeing name on it. AP be should outsourced to Mars instead of India or St Louis, the Martians would probably at least answer an email.

The travel we volunteer for is to help the company. My food and lodging better be just as good as my home or I will not go. Kids eat McDonald’s. Lowlife crack heads stay in motels. You want our help traveling for the company yet treat us like drifters. No way I would ever volunteer my time to be treated so poorly.

Most companies use the GSA Per Diem guidelines for hotels and food.

https://www.gsa.gov/travel/plan-book/per-diem-rates

Typically Hampton Inns and the like fit into these limits. Plus, companies tend to negotiate rates down the the per diem max, especially if they are in the defense business.

Hotels (nice but not fancy) are easy to find within the rates. For some places it is hard to stay under the food allowance for the day even if you eat three meals at micey d's.

There is your answer.

However, you are correct that the higher your manager grade the more exception to this rule there is. And you are also correct that SM people (regardless of grade) tend to get exceptions as well.

Some people are spoiled! I have no issues staying at the Bates Motor Inn or any other Economy Lodge. Getting dinner at McDonald’s or the Arco or mini mart is not that bad. Heck I can gat a lean cuisine at the CVS and microwave it at the motel.

I do agree with the OP that "every penny counts", but there are obviously "bigger fishes to fry" at this point (cough covid cough cough).

Agree with the food, but as someone her started her career as a 22 year old single woman, most Motel 6's just aren't safe.

Worried about a few $ when millions just wasted on adding spots on the E Board in the name of diversity. Boeing is a big Scam nothing more. Everyone gets there turn: Customer , Taxpayer and of course the Workers.
