Thread regarding Caterpillar Inc. layoffs

Caterpillar Had Quite a Year. 2021 Looks Better ...

it is the title of an article in Barron's. This year was very bad for me, at one point I was really scared thinking that I would be laid off but luckily it went without it, although now I am more actively looking for other options. I’m a bit skeptical and I don’t think it will get any better, but I’m interested in what you think? In fact, it might not be much worse, could it?

I can name ten hard-working and well performing colleagues who were layed off because of re-orgs right off the top of my head. Is it a coincidence they were all 45+?

Were you just laid off this year or last (2020)? Do you know how many people were laid off with you?

I wasn't so lucky. My job was eliminated through "reorganizing." That's been Cat's MO for getting rid of older employees and backfilling with younger, cheaper staff over the last ten years. Cat doesn't value their employees. For twenty years I invested in Cat as a career. I gave them free OT: early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays. They asked of me and I performed without complaint. In the end, we're all just contract labor. I saw the writing on the wall for ten years, but didn't want to believe it, so I stayed. Shame on me for being so stupid.
