Thread regarding Giant Eagle layoffs

Vision 2020

So how’d it go? Did GE meet its goal and become a 20BN a year company?

Laughing. Out. Loud.

Just curious, do other major companies keep wasting money on programs geared towards improving executive paychecks, I mean the customer experience as much as Giant Eagle does?

Let’s all be real for a second, these programs they come out with are starting to rotate with the same objective under a new name. Now they are coming out with company cultural training to teach employees what the company wants to be know for. Do you honestly think an employee living below the poverty level gives a rats @ss what the company wants to be known for? Perhaps when we start paying people enough money, they will have a vested interest in the company’s success.

Think about it, a minimum wage ($8.80hr) employee at Giant Eagle needs to work 81.82 hours to make the same amount of money as a FT 40 hour Target employee ($18.00hr) in a week! How’s that for perspective??

Oh good old Vision2020... I’m surprised you remembered that. So Vision2020 actually started out really well. We had a very successful first couple weeks. Our projections looked promising and we were really encouraged. Unfortunately we ran into a few roadblocks. Those roadblocks being Kroger’s, Aldi’s, Target, Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods and Amazon to name a few. After about a month or two we realized Vision202 wasn’t going to be easy. But like we always do we kept pushing forward because here at Giant Eagle we believe only goods things should happen to us because we are an honest company and play by all the rules. After about 2 or 3 years of cutting cost and reducing corporate payroll the executives held a meeting and came to the conclusion Vision2020 was only a pipe dream and would never happen. So we went to plan B which is stop talking about Vision202 and move on. Currently Giant Eagle is working on Vision2025 which is hiring 2 employees for every 5 employees needed. So far early data shows it is a success. We are seeing some fantastic numbers on our labor cost. If our early success continues we will give updates. If Vision2025 starts to tank we will stop talking about it and move on to Vision2030. Your going to love it.
