Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Thinking of taking svs

Located in houston thinking of leaving the industry. Afraid that with covid would take long time to find a decent paying job in another industry.

What are the chances they will deny the svs? I am not in a critical job and can be replaced.

Thoughts?

What’s the hurry!

if you’re not impacted, just wait as long as you could while you apply another job.

There will be another SVS next year.

I’m looking at tech and consulting as industries to pivot to. Consulting would be a nice opportunity to transition and still have a chance to leverage oil and gas knowledge. For tech, I’d be looking at something generic with a need for STEM minds like program management.

Categories that aren’t eligible for SVS include people in hourly roles, people in trading who have are on the commercial bonus, and a few other random categories (ie assets being divested). Most people will be eligible.

Thanks for the responses. So what types of industries / roles are people are applying for outside of shell? Also, what does it mean by "category" to be allowed for svs?

If you aren’t business critical they will probably approve your SVS application.

If you’re thinking of leaving, taking the SVS gives you a 6 month head start on your job search, since your last day on payroll would be July 31st. I submitted for SVS with this in mind, as I am also looking to exit oil and gas and have already started applying externally.

Are you in a category where you are allowed to take an SVS? I would say highly likely that they would support your SVS unless you are in a business critical position where no others are capable of taking over the role.
