I was unable to dial into the Safety and Operations Tech Services townhall on Thursday. So, I just finished listening to the recorded townhall where John McKenzie (the COO) introduced himself. Jon seemed to introduce himself as the new CEO of the new Cenovus. This happened at about 36 to 38 minutes mark of the video. I am not sure if I heard him right or not. I played the video again and heard the same thing. Can somebody go back and listen to the video and confirm if I heard right or not.

He did say that likely because he will be the CEO shortly. Alex will go back into retirement.
Calling himself the CEO either by mistake or not is total display of how stupid he is.
This is definitely not a mistake. It is what he wants that that he unknowingly said out loud.
Let’s face it oil is going down. We are so dependent on oil it isn’t funny. What happened to the heritage fund? It looks like we will be in the bust cycle for awhile.
It looks we will need to cry (whine) western Alienation, the west wants in, Alberta is the engine that drives the country. Let’s face it we lost an opportunity to pivot into a green economy.
We can blame Jason Kenny for this mess.
We might have to finally introduce a sales tax. Anyways I’m thankful I saved my money and didn’t spend away all the money I made over the years.
Yes, Jon introduced himself as the new CEO of the new Cenovus in the video. Ready for a bumpy ride with the new Cenovus guys.
I will not be surprised if the video is taken down in the next few days or at the minimum edited.
He always seems like he’s doing something else while talking. Believe me he’s a big improvement over DZ any day.
I also heard this when I watched it. I think it was a “freudian slip.” He seems to take full credit for the takeover and this just seemed to be him telling everyone what he wants. He was definitely distracted and just rattling off the same thing he has in other town halls.

I just listened to the recording and Jon did call himself the new CEO of the new Cenovus in that video. That guy is just too arrogant and power hungry. This is not good for new Cenovus at all. I just hope that Alex will be able to put him where he belongs.
Nothing wrong with a good internal power struggle while merging two companies. Poor Alex, he doesn’t stand a chance against Jon.
And how arrogant he was while talking during that townhall, didnt even care to look at the camera. Having known him as previous CFO of Husky, he is a bad-a–. He has accountants mind, expect him to cut costs and have additional layoffs, anytime shareholders dividend is in danger. All he cares about is balance sheet and not engineering or any other expertise required. He made Husky buy c-appy superior refinery in USA (without any asset due diligence) just to avoid bringing Husky USD cash back to Canada which would have led to additional taxes. We all know happened to Superior refinery.
I thought I heard the same thing also on the call. I will go back to listen to the recording again.
