Has there been a company-wide moratorium on promotions that I don't know about? I've been promised a promotion more than a year ago now and nothing is happening. Every time I bring it up I get reassured that it's a done deal and then nothing happens. Can somebody who is not related to anybody at this place even get promoted?

They keep shuffling the same 5 guys around in roles I have been busting my butt for (for years) good luck,
Parts of GO definitely give raises. They don't always feel fair, but they often do. Store employees should demand $15/hr minimum.
Rodney has done a good job of turning Kroger into the worst place to work in the country. I worked there for 40 years, now retired. I never thought I would see the day when Walmart is a better place to work than Kroger is, but that day is here.
As someone who works in stores. There is no promotions. Unless you want to be a assistant store manager so you can make less than department head and pay higher for your benefits. The rodney plan is simple. He got rid of all the promotions (jobs). Now even if you some how manage to get promoted to store manager, you get stuck in the worst neglected stores for years. No chance to move up or to bigger stores.
I do think they don't promote from within at GO. Why when you can higher someone from a failing competitor or right out of collage. They can run reports and tell you why doing dumb things are the right thing to do.
In my division they just signed a new contract. Now you can work for kroger for 3 years and work your way up to 50 cents less than Walmart and target's starting pay with no chance for full time.

If you are not hot or have someone related to you higher up forget about it lol
Never believe a promise that you are getting a promotion until you see it in writing. Very few leaders have the authority and pull to make a promise like that and back it up 100%. If you have a boss that says "I or the company has plans for you" then you are most likely being strung along. That is a lazy boss who resorts to those kind of tactics to keep you motivated. He or she most likely realizes you are pulling your weight and then some, but do not want to take a chance on you leaving for another department. As far as can anyone not related to someone high up ever get promoted, the answer is yes. However, it is much more difficult, You need to understand that you cannot out - smart, out - work, out - skill, out - dress, or out - perform someone who has been identified via nepotism for a promotion. The only thing you can do is not be in the way when that happens. It is easier to move up in the Stores or Divisions since the ones looking for help from their family usually like the comfort of GO and not stores.
