For those of you who were laid off or know someone who was, where did these layoffs happen?
This, is what galls most of us...
“ What is simply infuriating, is to watch the golden parachutes handed to some of the least talented management stiffs. Last year, the hedge fund operated gannet,, paid over 7 million to sever ties with a redundant executive.”
I was “ cancelled” in 2020, after 23 loyal years to the original family owned business, then Gatehouse and finally Gannett. Unbelievably incompetent management, that rely on lying to maintain their status quo.
Hedge funds don’t mesh well with strong, credible journalism.
I just took the buyout on the 1st. Best decision I EVER made!! I worked for the prior companies Gatehouse before the Gannett merge. Many of our local sale team took the buyout. Been doing this for 9+ years and watched it all get worse and worse as the time went by. I find management to be horribly under qualified and I know they are moving swiftly to become a digital agency, but they don’t manage to do it as effectively as other companies. Watch it...there will be more layoffs in January.
As a past, loyal 25+ year employee, it is sad to see what is happening to a once proud beacon of journalism.

While I left Gannett in March 2015, this latest cost cutting shows I was wise to retire after I reached Medicare age age this year.
Sure don't see management being cut.
I'm also apart of this group... so much for patriotism, but i can't say i didnt see it coming, gotta take care of those wealthy investors first.
It’s heartbreaking. I’m part of this group. Sad time for our local paper and our country as more and more “American” companies choose money over Americans.
Scary time to be layed off. Just add that to the current unemployment figures. What’s worse is that it’s going overseas 😔
