Thread regarding Gap Inc. layoffs

GAP HQ

Gap has laid off a significant amount of its HQ staff during covid. They have outsourced whole departments to 3rd party provides. Moved major portions of the business to Ohio and India. The salaries have been halved or more for these positions. Bailed on visa holders as well which is problematic as travel and getting visa sponsorship are both still precarious. Good luck on employee loyalty, they are not snapping the bottom...they are the bottom.

They have also walked away from most retail leases, most of their stores in SF and across the country are gone. Their on-line sales are disastrous. They seem to be struggling to be an on-going entity. So sad that one of SF's great brands stories is headed towards oblivion. They used to contribute to our city and community but now seem beholden to a lower ethical standard.

While Gap business is suffering, they continue to pay an American executive & his entire family to live in Tokyo. Where the cost of living is among the highest in the world. An average size of a typical Japanese apartment is 500-650 sf, Gap is paying for the executive to live in a 3000sf unit plus paying multiple kids to attend private school in Tokyo that easily cost over 60k each kid.
What was Gap thinking? Isn’t they a cost control? Is the CEO aware of this?

Trimming office space by walking away from the building at Mission Bay. Not sure if this is a good move, or showing their plans to reduce staffing significantly.
