I hate being made aware that layoffs are coming but not knowing anything else about what's going to happen. So now I have to worry over the when, how many, and who for who knows how long. I truly wish they'd just drop layoffs on us instead of doing this. It'd be less stressful either way.

They usually lay people off near the end of a fiscal quarter or before the end of the fiscal year. This includes contractors too. Just remember, the managers, directors, and executive directors who are former IBM employees will favor the employees who are: 1.) former IBM employees (and family members of former IBM employees) and 2.) the big time brown nosers who become favorites. Those are the last to go. If it comes down to choosing between someone who works hard and even brings in millions of dollars to the company versus a favorite employee, the favorite will stay even if they do less work. I've seen former IBM employees hired who were totally lost at their Lenovo jobs and if that new employee spent most of the day surfing the web and not doing work, management just looked the other way. If the favorite employee is busy watching a golf tournament streaming live on the internet instead of working, the executive director will come over and ask him for the latest in the standings. That's the way it is. If there's one big lesson to learn at Lenovo, it's that you MUST play the office/ company politics game, or else you will end up sitting on the sidelines (and possibly laidoff) while others around you are promoted.
There are layoffs every year. Look at public sources. Nothing anonymous about those.
If the pattern of 2019 and 2020 is followed again this year, expect the layoffs to be announced the Thursday before the Memorial Day weekend, and effective 6/30/2021.
OP, Are you a Lenovo employee? If you answer yes, layoffs are ALWAYS around the corner. KY said it..."restructuring". That means layoffs are around the corner. When way to tell the higher likelihood of being let go is...
- Are you 50 or older? If yes, then you are about 10x more likely than your coworkers in their 30s.
- Are you a US citizen and male? If yes, then you are much more likely.
- Are there similar jobs being advertised knowing they are not available today externally? If yes, they are gauging available workers and salary demands for YOUR job along with people like you.
That is the nature of the beast working for Lenovo in RTP. To be completely honest, there is NO ONE at Lenovo that is irreplaceable. They have had far too many layoffs already to prove that fact.
Layoffs occur every year, multiple times a year at Lenovo; this is a fact. It's part of the wonderful "work 'em until they're nearly dead then throw 'em away" culture that both IBM and China adore.
The only reason you think they’re coming is because of this site. Stop trusting a bunch of anonymous people so much.
