I’m sick of this! I tried really hard to have a better performance, I thought it meant something here, but no. At least not in my case. The only thing I got was a burnout. I would like to know that the effort paid off for someone in this company in which obviously the value you bring doesn't really matter and the more mediocre you are the more you succeed.

Good point - if employees were not working hard, the company's performance will be even worse as of today. So people worked hard for free.
From what I’ve seen, the way performance reviews are set up, it pushes everyone to the middle rating regardless of actual performance. Managers have to justify every rating above or below that threshold and none want to put in that effort. They might give you a high mark here or there but the overall score never breaks into the higher rating due to distribution. As someone who has gone above and beyond time and time again, I’ve been disappointed every year when I’m decimal points away from a higher bonus threshold and it really just makes me want to do the bare minimum knowing I’ll still get the same payout and incremental raise as usual.
