My manager is starting to drop hints that there is another round of lay-offs coming. He doesn't know the numbers yet but engineering are going to be cut. We're already facing product dev delays and any more cuts are going to hit us hard and push us back further. Why don't they target the overpaid sales staff who aren't delivering? Product sales have gone downhill.

IBM is busy splitting up their company or assets right now so I doubt they would take on this acquisition. My guess would be that they go private via some PE deal. They added a PE specialist to the board back in January so that would only make sense. By going private they can do the things that they can’t do as a public company. That of course would not prevent layoffs as there certainly would be some restructuring involved.
engineering has been shifting to outsource for quite some time now. cost saving initiatives
Why in the world would IBM buy Cloudera? They already have a partnership and if it actually mattered, IBM would've acquired it ages ago.
If anyone buys it, it'll be some third-tier company like Micro Focus.
Do you think this is in anticipation of an acquisition from a larger company? IBM is selling their medical business which would give them plenty of funds to acquire a company
