Someone’s advice here seemed very good and logical to me - find work in areas that cannot be easily outsourced. I would love to have a job that can’t be outsourced, but it seems to me that there are almost no such jobs left. Which job in software/ hardware industry cannot be outsourced?

That's correct plus remember BY LAW US Government IT jobs CAN NOT be outsourced out of the country and rightfully so. Stability, pay, promotions, time off and health benefits far superior to NCR.
Work/Life Balance is reality too and not just a catchy fun slogan to toss around like at NCR.
Industrial control systems (ICS) are at the heart of industrial automation, playing a critical role in managing the operations of critical infrastructure, such as power grids; financial networks; and transportation, telecommunications, and manufacturing systems.
If you can train in ICS .
I was a devry grad and did electronics, ICS, and communications. Unfortunately I pursued the electronics which led me to computer board repair and board swapping hardware tec. Had I known back then what I know now I should have pursued ICS. Even tho I excelled in communication part of college. ICS is something that cannot be outsourced
I said that. But no computer software or hardware is safe. Hardware you may be able to if you repair but even those are not going to grow. You need to be in a state or federal benefits maybe good but pay probably isn’t. And you at least get a pension too. As far as jobs that cannot be outsourced that like electrician or welding. If your in software that’s a hard one since it can easily be outsourced. If your in hardware repair think outside the ncr box. Your talents are wide. Think what has electronic and mechanical combined. If your in a big city don’t let something like elevator repair go. You have talent think outside the ncr confined box. I interviewed with a molten metal company. They don’t use fire anymore lest the newer ones. They used transformers to melt steel. They run them slightly out of phase with causes extreme heat but not hot enough to burn up.
Don’t give up
Don’t believe there is any position that is stable at NCR other than the top Executives. I agree look for a county state or government position. My sister in law works for the state and healthcare other benefits are quite good along with decent time off. NCR focused on bottom line like most companies. Even Field Service CE not always safe.
Get a job with a government agency, whether it be with your state or local government or with the federal government. All job including jobs in IT or computers within a government agency are secure no matter what category. Forget about the private sector, no job is stable in the private sector.
