Thread regarding Altice USA (Cablevision) layoffs

It’s not so easy to leave

This company is doomed and I would like not to stay here for another day, but still... Everyone keeps saying that you should leave as soon as possible, but no one says how hard it really is to leave.
In three months of looking for a new job, I managed to get only one option, which was in many ways even more unfavorable for me than it is here. What problems do you face when you want to leave this company?

Leaving can be difficult but always remember, when one door closes another will open. There are better opportunities out there you just have to look and to not be afraid to try something new. I left altice in September for another job and couldn't be happier! No stress, good environment, good team, and a great foreman. I too was iffy about quiting because of bills, family, and leaving something you was apart of for almost a decade. But sometimes if you want to better yourself and be successful in life, you have to take chances. Hope you and anyone else reading this find better jobs, good luck guys!!

welp, they well never get rid of contractors so you might as well forget getting rid of XYZ communications. Why do you think they allow them to roll around in our old transits? Most people do not know the difference.

And also we have a small cell network in agreement with t mobile that is supposed to be maintained and built out more. We have 90 volt strand power which makes it turn key for them to add lte infrastructure. Aerial or underground. That needs maintenance too.
They need corporate technicians to represent the company and work on this. People like to see us in their areas working on it, it gives them a sense that " something is being done" and they want to see company faces and not " xyz communications, sprinklers, and solar panels company"

Well said mba champ.
There is no guarantee on wireless speeds and connectivity because wireless can succumb to its environment ( weather changes, buildings, trees, humidity, etc) . A fixed fiber line is the best way. And fiber networks are not trouble or maintenance free. Fiber networks need maintenance too. All you need is an animal to chew through it or some contractor who put a machine through it and its out. Not to mention fiber breaks, bends, and equipment going bad...just like hfc equipment. And yeah...you can get noise on a fiber Network too.

Leaving is not easy, that is the truth but the best time to look for a job is when you have one. Every demographic and household income is different and currently, Altice cannot support its employees.

Broadband usage is increasing with average households being 700GB per month so wireless 5g will not be able to support the demand. Fixed fiber/coax systems will be the only ones who can support the increase in demand and keep pricing lower per subscriber.

Our skills are needed and are important to the industry, not many people can do what we do on a daily basis. It just that Altice makes us feel that our skills do not matter so they can lower pay rates. Its a mind game with Altice, but the industry is evolving and growing and other similar companies are emerging and opportunities will arise. Keep your head up.

Like most CORPORATIONS this place deems front line workers as incidentals that they can dump if LEGALLY they could in BKLYN. Our UNIONS protects us from preposterous firings and management reprisals that occurred prior to UNION REPRESENTATION. Salaries are negotiated due to a A CONTRACT. Previously it was pitiful. Benefits were and are similarly OK. Upward mobility was at their discretion and on work knowledge. The thing now is learn as much as you can, save your $ and leave. This place is pro management, stock prices and new acquisitions. Not Field Workers. We like the work and truly recognize our relationship with the higher ups. This is the American way now.

Company most likely isn’t going where but you also have to keep your options open. Listen, if you want to be a cable guy until your 60, cool. You can. You might be able to go to another dept etc. I wish I took more chances when they started the fiber build but with two little kids I couldn’t. Just keep in mind that being a “cable tech” or a “plant tech” is hard to transfer skills. If you’re a sup, you might be good. Keep your eyes open, keep your options open.

Doomed? lol This company operates in the most lucrative market in country (NYC metro). You can say what you want about how they treat people but this company isn't going anywhere.

I left in May with no backup plan. The only plan was I had a package and to get out. Benefits do not matter to me, so it made options somewhat easier. I will say though, it's hard. I thought I'd land something quick but during a pandemic....eh. The guys that just land jobs either have connections within the industry or somehow have been able to transition skills. Just keep looking. I am currently at a job that's not my first choice BUT I make the same as what I left at, I get to work inside (which was awesome during those snow and rain storms!) and I am part of a great team.....you'll find something. keep looking.
