Thread regarding General Atomics layoffs

On pickiness

Many of my colleagues have quit because they did not have any expectations that the situation would improve for a long time. Some of them agreed to a much lower pay than they had here.

I went to a few interviews, I was also offered less paid jobs so I gave up and decided to stay here for a while longer.

However, people are talking more and more about layoffs, so I don’t know how smart it is to be picky in this situation?

This place is definitely not for someone that truly wants to advance in their careers, as I feel like many managers try to hold back the great ones for sake of fearing that losing someone very hard working, and that is excellent at their job would threaten the performance and possibly the department that the manager is responsible for.

Basically holding employees back because it would affect managements ability to get things done. Good, dedicated workers are very hard to come by, and management knows this, so they will do everything in their power to keep them where they want. Before I was laid off at GA, I literally applied like crazy at different positions within GA because I wasn’t happy at the current role that i was in at the time. But nobody from HR ever responded to my applications.

I wondered why, I remember telling my supervisor that i was looking to move on and that I just wasn’t happy with my role, so I believe he could have said something to hiring managers not to hire me or bother considering, because I probably p-ss-d him off telling him that I was looking elsewhere for work.

At the end of the day, they just laid me off almost as a punishment for simply just trying to move on. GA is definitely a company where it’s best if you are best buds and a kiss a– with someone at the top, rather than someone that gets things done and isn’t so “buddy buddy” with management. GA management doesn’t like anyone who questions their authority or stands up for ones self. They just want people to act like robots and do as they’re told regardless of how hard or time consuming the work is or how unfair certain tasks that are given to someone may seem.

GA is stuck in the 80’s, with pay that isn’t great considering how much money they make and the kind of highly skilled workforce they need for the company to succeed. I am just so glad and happy that I am not there anymore. Getting laid off was the best thing to ever happen, at least it put my mind at ease knowing that I did everything possible to advance in my career their, and because of personal strife between my boss and I, I believe I was never ever going to get anywhere within GA. Their loss is my gain.

By definition good people do not stay at GA. It is on the lower end of innovation and technology. So good people leaving is nothing new and is actually GA getting back to its original way of doing business.

This place is getting depressing. Heard today another batch of folks leaving, and a few of them were on the high(er) level! GA will survive, but we are losing many good people. Just a shell of a company now - full of retirees (or people who SHOULD retire) or just , dare I say, stupid people

I'm an A&P mechanic that use to work for GA and i accepted a job at a local defense company at $2 less than what i was making at GA. After working there for 6 months I'm now making more than before and I'm training to be a lead. If you know your worth go out and get it. though, if your one of those employees who used their leverage because they were friends with supervisors and managers. then basically your a "dead weight employee", and you should just stay where you are, your abilities to make friends with management and go DIRT BIKING with them does not work in the real world. Actual hard work is expected from everyone and knee pads are used for what they are designed for.

If you are being offer less pay than GA... you are the dead weight employee and need to stay bc you aren’t going to get anything better any where else! GA always under pays bc the quality of people is very liw
