Unum is further reducing it's domestic information technology workforce in lieu of offshore workers and contractors. A savings of $5,000,000/annual was quoted but no headcount of people was given. This seems very callous given the current state of the economy and the fact that many corporations have hiring freezes due to the pandemic. The present IT leadership has destroyed the knowledge base built over the years leaving many many applications with no knowledgeable support staff. These things are always under the radar as Unum wants to portray the corporation as a community partner when in fact they don't give a damn about their employees and the community. The executives making these decisions have no loyalty to the company but are only there until the next corporate s—er comes along. The low level employees always pay the price for failed strategies while the execs get their golden parachutes as they are gracefully shown the door.
Doesn’t appear that much has changed at Unum in terms of Leadership or Strategy which is very unfortunate. I worked at Unum in IT for 11 years with some talented and dedicated people. One of the best career decisions I ever made was leaving Unum 9 years ago for better career opportunities when there was no room to grow my Technical or Leadership roles. It would take a major shakeup in Leadership to get the company back on track as it has been saddled with decades of Tech Debt.
