A colleague told me this shortly after I started - build a safety net. After I survived my first round of layoffs I understood what he meant. I’m still here but for how long - I don’t know. I don’t enjoy knowing that the fate of my employment lies in the hands of people who have no knowledge of what my job entails. I am hoping to find something soon so I can leave on my own terms. Until then I’m taking it one day at a time.

The best thing the company did was march a group of ten layoffs past our group of ten new hires; after that I never allowed myself to feel like my job was safe.
Needless to say, I wasn't surprised when it wasn't.
Good plan.
