I have never been a part of a department that is so run down and discouraged as EHS is now. Until a year ago we were an incredibly motivated team. Now people hate their jobs and talk about leaving because JJ fires the good ones. If the president award winner is not safe I do not know who is. Guess he made her mad too? Where do we go from here? Can we secede and start our own department?

As someone who worked with JJ, be warned. She is a ladder-climber and her high heel will stab you in the eye as she continues her climb. Get out while you can.
They learned well from the friends at the Alamo.
"Hey guys remember to fill out these soooooper important goals that your boss probably won't look at even if you still have a job next spring! Thanks :-)"
"How about you just leave an OIl company while Oil companies are still consolidating and laying off, and forfeit any unemployment benefits, if you disagree with what people above you making three to ten times your salary are doing!?!?"
We actually used to be an oil and gas company. Now we are this weird HR-run gulag wherein scientists and engineers are subjected to torture in the form of AGame, goals, competency reviews (upcoming), and nonsense courses like "What is Diversity and Inclusion?" and "Microaggression and Micro-affirmation."
Really cool stuff. Total f–king mystery as to why people have been leaving in droves. Once our base production gets low enough (it's getting damn close), there won't be any technical folks left to evaluate anything our hapless business development group can overpay for.
How about you just leave on your own if you are that unhappy. There is probably other reasons unknown to you "the good ones" are being let go. JJ has done a pretty good job from what I have noticed.
Age old tactic of getting rid of the people who highlight your incompetence.
