I have heard from a source in a position to know of these matters that Lancôme and the entire L'Oréal group are preparing to exit Belk.

I think that aside from whatever issues Belk is having, Lancome must be going out of business. You cannot buy foundation brushes, a fairly basic item, from their website. They've been phasing out the Absolue cream foundation for some time. I don't get it--they used to be the top-shelf cosmetic line. How could they sc--w up such a successful enterprise so badly?
They are showing no Lancome products on their site and when I wrote them about it all I get is that “sometimes their products are out of stock and check back soon”. Lancome probably made a smart move pulling out because Belk has been going downhill and continues to do so. Such a shame because it one time it was a great store, but no longer. One step above K-Mart.
Belk is not the department store it used to be. Now Dillard's is the place to go for any brand makeup and the best shoe department.
As for as I’m concerned Belks can close its doors!!!! No Lancôme, Clinique counter doesn’t have stock either… Clothes just not up to par… Ulta carries Lancôme and Clinique. But no special gifts … Sad sad…
This is a mistake. Buying Lancôme products was one of the things that drew me into Belk. Very disappointed!
So very sad...
Worked there seasonal, Christmas 2020, Lancôme is my go to. Was told Belk stopped paying the vendor so L’Oréal took products out of store and will not let Belk sell them anymore.
I went to my Belks today there is no Lancombe in any Belks or Dillards in our area. WTF?
I ordered some replacement Lancome products from belk.com but I was shocked that cils booster was nowhere to be found. So I went to my local Belk and wanted to cry after I saw the Lancome counter empty. I asked an employee and she told me that Lancome is owned by Loreal and that Loreal was pulling all their products from Belk and many other department stores. About that time I saw the manager from the Lancome counter and said, "Well, thank God you're still here!" I loved her friendly and patient manner so I guess I'll try Elizabeth Arden and see how that goes. I asked if Belk would be getting a replacement like Chanel or Dior and was told that Chanel is also owned by Loreal. I asked about Urban Decay and learned that it's another Loreal brand. I'm really going to miss getting to "play" with the new products prior to purchase and the makeover events (even though my store hasn't had one in a while) and promo kits. While I was there, I figured I'd do a little shopping and it's probably the first time that I left the store without buying something. New Directions is gone and several other brands that I'm accustomed to. There was a fair amount of Crown and Ivy and Kim Rogers, both of which tend to be to preppy for my taste. There were maybe 3 styles of Levis jeans to choose from. And the centralized register that others have mentioned was in place. Only one dressing room was open. I hope Belk can turn it around. I've shopped there since I was a teen but I guess all good things eventually come to an end. :(
It is obvious Belk is closing, whether they claim it is restructuring debt or not. A friend handles vendor terms for Belk and said they literally have the tightest terms to pay for merch delivery in the industry - mere days instead of 30 or 60 day terms that most vendors use.
Since the logo changed, the store has steadily declined even before Covid. It represents an outdated business model too slow to change with the times like other Dept stores of the era. When you first walk in, there are Estee Lauder counters which kinda represents that bygone era; those customers are now either retired or sadly deceased and the new generations replacing boomers were not captured. Nordstrom grabbed them along with online retailers and the likes of Sephora, etc.
There is literally no one to help you in the store; no associates and merchandise sits or is disorganized for weeks before floor sets are placed. With online competition, coupons, free returns there is no longer a reason to come here.
Cosmetic dept is being cleared out, fine jewelry is 70% off and entire sections of the store esp. well known vendors are disappearing.
I just purchased LANCOME foundation online from BELK. Received an EXPIRED product. So disappointed in their customer service and fulfillment. Returning it for a refund. Buyer Beware!!
Belk is still selling Clinique and Estee lauder. A new line will replace Lancome. Lancome wasn't the top selling line in Belk - Clinique #1 then Estee Lauder #2.
So sad!! Belk was my favorite store☹️
I was told by a salesperson that Lancome will no longer be sold at any major stores and that products will only be available online.
I'm speaking on conditions of anonymity, the reason they are pulling out is that Belk quit paying their bills during the pandemic, but continued to receive inventory. Now that the pandemic is easing up they are trying to get out of paying for all of the inventory they accepted for 16 months. Scumbag business practices. I am counsel for the loreal group.
Yea our cosmetics department at Belk is literally OUT OF STOCK on anything...for a few months, I've had huge numbers on SVS due to no products to sell in-store. We constantly have to deal with angry customers who are told we do not have their product...again...but it is orderable BUT they have to wait to get it in the mail. Our store manager does not tell us anything about what is happening in cosmetics...it just sucks. Now we only carry basic perfume brands, Belk beauty or goodness & grace, and whatever we have available in estee & clinique. It is sad when our own customers tell other customers that Sephora and Ulta next door have constant stock.
I've heard that Belk Columbiana Mall is turning into a "Marshall's" type store- one check out, ect- that all cosmetic's, Lancomb, Channel, Bobby Brown will all disappear. If you notice many of the cosmetic counters are empty- that is the reason, they are gone...So if you are looking for some of those cosmetic brands, head over to Ulta, they have some, not Channel or Lancomb yet, but the others they do have. Once Belk was bought out by the company who owns them now, they have progressively gone down hill. Thank goodness for Dillards, who remains their high standard.
It was announced today that Chanel is leaving belk
It is a fact that L’Oreal brands will not be at Belk. Haven’t heard from anyone about Dior and Chanel leaving. The Lauder companies are staying. Lancôme was not the biggest seller anyways.
I was told by Belk associate that this is true!! Vickie
Ok cosmetics is no longer the bread and butter to any department store . We have the worst margins due to lack of events , and makeovers. Belk is smart to get rid of these brands as they are event based. s..t you can get cosmetics at the maxx nowadays.
This has nothing to do with MAC. MAC is owned by Estee Lauder, not L'Oreal.
It's true. I heard it from an AE for Lancome. Im a freelance artist for Lancome. Lancome is pulling out of Belk. My AE has no belk stores anymore.
So sad. William Belk is rolling over in his grave.
Dior has already left stores we will also be moving registers to the entrances of the door except for fine jewelry and cosmetics. we will also be carrying kayaks at our store in Rock Hill
True Story... true Lancôme associate. Very sad!!
Heard Lancôme and all of L’Oreal owned brands, Ralph Lauren, Armani, YSL VictorandRolf fragrances, Kiels and Urban Decay will be RTV’d much sooner than the November stated timeframe that Belk Upper MGMT announced. Wondering if ALL fragrances other than the L’Oreal owned are gonna be exiting as well?
Also Hearing chatter that Chanel and Dior houses are in discussions to leave.
Noticed on the POS system when going in to check daily line sales the Beauty/Cosmetics was wiped off as their own Department ...kept searching for numbers and found them listed under Accessories.
As each day passes it seems as though the Beauty Dept isn’t looking all that beautiful for Belk anymore. 🥺😢
And ‘they’ keep insisting Belk is “strong and stable?”
I’m a real life Lancome person and it’s real and it’s happening. Belk does not care about it’s employees at all. They care about the bottom line-and they can’t even do that right 😂
Mmmmm.. Jean Nate never smelled better. Hope we can beat the Walgreens price..
It was officially announced today, including Lancome and Fragrances. No rumor.
Announced today. L’Oréal pulling out of Belk by November. Here come the d–g store brand fragrances.
Sweetie these are not rumors....trust me....I’m a 6 year CM.
Stop with the fake rumors. Mac doesn’t want out ?? Belk wanted them out. A lot of Mac counters are on leased spaced. Mac hasn’t done well overall as a cosmetics company. Lancôme cancelled the presale due to Belks failure to pay/ place new order. Belk couldn’t pay in advance for shipment of new product, which is required by Lancôme. Ask the Lancôme counters; besides Christmas. When have you received large restock of product.
The day Lancôme pulls out of Belk is the day every cosmetics associate should quit.
To be fair, I heard rumblings of this starting about 7-8 months ago. I wouldn’t be surprised, esp with no presales going forward.
Without cosmetics, Belk is done. Cosmetics are to b&m department stores what umbrella drinks are to restaurants. Biggest seller, best markup, IN PERSON purchases
Proof? This is from actual real life people that work for Lancôme at Belk.
I heard Gene Simmons has a cow tongue surgically applied to his own tongue. I heard Richard Gere likes gerbils. I heard Mikey mixed pop rocks with soda.. Where’s the proof folks. Hearsay. Rumor. Speculation.
I heard the same thing. I heard that MAC also wants out.
I wouldn’t be surprised one bit. At my store we haven’t received a real individual shipment of Lancome since before the holiday season. Lancome only gets stock from those boxes of random mixed cosmetics & fragrances & old samples. My account exec was also recently let go. January 2020 (pre-pandemic) at our season opener, they claimed that Belk had placed a record 2-3 million dollar order with Lancome & that a lot of shipment related matters would be resolved (then boom, pandemic). I wonder if they’re one of the vendors not being paid.
