Thread regarding HP (Hewlett-Packard) layoffs

Notifications have started

Doesn't seem to be affecting too many people so far, but it's certainly happening.

Right, because most HP jobs can he done by quality high school graduates but management requires at least a liberal arts degree.

Seems only senior management was able to go to different groups within HP, the 60-day preferred hire period was not really a preferred hire since the HP hiring flow for open spots always seemed to take longer than the 60 days so if you were in process, HR would stop your interviews and push you to the curb.

I am saddened by the postings on LinkedIn about diversity and HP recruiting/promoting under represented groups. All hat and no cattle on the part of HPQ.

Great to hear some are finding jobs. That's uncommon at HP.

Any other sites being affected you know of? Someone mentioned transferred to Spain and laid off - sounds like 3D printing.

Boise print operations will be all but shut down this calendar year. A skeleton crew will be retained to complete the slow, painful, complicated transfer to Suwon.

This is nothing new. It has been common knowledge (at least among knowledgeable people) since HP sold the entire Boise site to the State of Idaho.

It’s definitely those who aren’t engineers in personal systems. Anyone who is in sales or the print group are likely the ones who are going to be let go (aside from CWs)

I can only assume that HPI's policy is still to not allow people to find new position if they are on the layoff list.

CW's are being terminated before the end of their contracts too. I just found out about one that had been at HP for 3 terms of 2 years. First that person was transferred to an off shore unit (on paper and not physically) from the USA to Spain, then terminated a few weeks later.

People are being told to look for other positions within the company, but who in their right mind would accept another job here in lieu of severance?
