I wish I knew what it’s like to work while giving only a minimum of myself, and not ending the working day so tired that I can’t even get enough rest until the next day. A colleague advises me not to try too hard because layoffs are inevitable, sooner or later. How can I not try hard when my existence depends on this job because I have not found any other, and they do not hesitate to fire people for a trifle?

I was recently laid off, and I was able to find another job in a different industry making around the same salary (no MIP though). I had plenty of interviews and got to choose between 3 opportunities. There is light at the end of the UPS tunnel, you just have to accept that there won't be this big annual bonus awarded in stock at your next stop, at least right off the bat. The tradeoff in stress is worth it.
