A lot of people I know who work in the retail sector would love to be able to work at Amazon. They think that it’s much better here, which in most cases it is, but let’s not be fooled, it’s not great here either. I’d rather keep quiet than recommend they try to get a job here. Do you recommend this company when asked about working conditions?

Working for a retailer is working for a retailer, and at least Amazon has a floor of $15 an hour, a good benefits package, and full time jobs. What other retailer offers that these days outside of Costco? Thanks to Obamacare, it's part time jobs everywhere if you're not a manager or at corporate. Now if you're in deliveries or at warehouses, then you'd be doing the same thing you're doing at Amazon with less pay. The tech side of things is pretty damn cool though.
The grass is brown everywhere so it doesn’t matter if you cross the fence. Hard work is hard work and no union or non-union scenario on the planet will take away this fact. If you want a better job where the work will not (literally) break your back, earn a degree and do something else. Or live with the fact hard labor is the same wherever you go
