@3cej+1aJ1bAhL- sorry bud. The company pays unemployment insurance not the employee. So the company not only pays your unemployment but also giving severance thus the double dipping.
@snc+1aJ1bAhL- the state takes taxes from your check to pay for unemployment insurance so that when you get laid off you have that safety net. Its EXACTLY how it works,
They cannot change the severance pay unless they change the HR Policy. Severance is 2 weeks pay for every year served up to one year of pay.
@hcz+1aJ1bAhL that's not how it works. Unemployment is generally paid but the ex employer via a state agency
severance will be there.. and double dipping??.. my D*ck!! just cause your cr---y State charges you for unemployment benefits while working but doesnt want to payout when you get laid off doesnt mean we are double dipping mo--n. I paid for those benefits over YEARS of working. You sound like an Allstate Corp bagger. Like when payroll includes the money they pay for workers comp insurance and PTO as part of your total compensation package..
Don't expect severance
Be careful in assuming severance and the same layoff process as last year. The new focus seems to be voluntary term offers to certain higher levels and repurposing of employees to areas that are short staffed after last year's mess. Also there have been many that have stated that word going around is severance will be limited to certain tenures over 5 years and certain pay bands with 5 years or more tenure. Also severance may not be offered to those in states where unemployment is available also when severance is given. Allstate paid out a lot more than expected in their share of unemployment claims filed and aporoved by those who also received severance (double dipping is allowed in many states and Allstate is on the financial hook for both in those cases). Things will be quite different with layoffs this year and the increased lift and shift methods.
