Thread regarding Cummins Inc. layoffs

I hate this feeling

Worrying about being laid off all the time sucks, mildly put.

Start job hunting now and you will realize that you are being underpaid roughly 20% compared to the rest of the industry, take one of those outside jobs and NEVER look back.

Try and time your departure to a new company with your RIF severance package from Cummins. This way you get paid double. You can achieve this by starting a job search early if there is a restructure going on in your area. Since I am a white male over 50 and was in management, I knew their strategy like a book because I had seen and was a part of it so many times over 22 years. My number did come up and the timing worked out good for me. RIFs happen to all of us eventually, even the anointed ones who think they are the favorites. Who said you can't get blood from a turnip :-).

As mentioned before get your finances in order, update your resume, they give a decent severance package, there’s a policy you can read. But it all takes a toll on you mentally if you can find something that works for you, it may help your mental health

“Promotion thru attrition” is a fool’s paradise. The RIFS are consistent. Move on to a company that values employees.

Have some money in the bank just in case, but just don't worry about it. There's nothing you can do about it if they decide to lay you off, because it's fairly arbitrary. Looking at the brightside, due to all the layoffs and people wising up and quitting, just hanging out and keeping your head down is a way to promotion because all the other candidates are gone. Promotion through attrition.

I openly complain about the layoff cancel culture in the employee opinion survey, but nothing changes.

You are not the only one. However instead of worrying a lot just have a back up plan in place. I know how you feel and I get it. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket and Cummins Inc has been going through it. From plant in Memphis TN permanently closing etc
