Thread regarding CenturyLink layoffs

What's the criteria?

I'd accept an offer in a heartbeat, which of course means I didn't receive one. Do we know what was the criteria used to determine who gets it? Is it based strictly on location, department, years, or something else? Would it be a good idea to indicate to my manager I'd be open to something like this?

Yessir. They got rid of a guy with almost 50 years, a guy with 30 years and a guy with 23 years and kept the yes man with 5 years in our area.

So you’re telling they’ll cut a guy with 15years over a guy with 5 or less?

Good luck with that. You're just prolonging the inevitable. This is not a place with job security any more obviously and the union is useless.

It’s based on how much money you make and age! Period! If you don’t think that then you’re completely misinformed! You my friend have been Munsoned!

Based on seniority....hahahahahaa. yeah right. You are in for a wakeup call when they get to your area. The union lets them do whatever they want.

To the person that said the director said they want to let go of low performers. Are you not union in your market, because it’s based on seniority so the older guys that don’t like the job but stick around for their pension are not leaving the young guys are getting the boot.

Article 19 in the CWA contract. Has all information. They will offer VSPP and later EVSPP and also STLA a couple times during the process

Same in Seattle. VSPP offer outside of the surplus declarations.

A director told me they want rid of low performers and people who hate the company or don't want to be here first. Wouldn't divulge anything other than that. I told him that being the case they would have to get rid of everyone, cause we all hate it. He didn't laugh.
I know of two older guys that told the boss they wanted packages and it took a year but they both got packages. I have seen them get rid of guys with five years they should have kept but kept old guys they should have gotten rid of. On the flip side, they have gotten rid of some great older guys with knowledge they will never replace, and keep young worthless guys.

Age, pay are the two biggest considerations. They basically screw the people who built their networks! Nice loyalty! Get out however you can! Good luck!
