Layoffs in unrepresented areas

Does anyone know the policy for layoff in areas not represented friend got walked out today but his paperwork says he has 45 days to sign an agreement? They gave him a check and said bye.

If you speak about issues, and refuse to falsify records to meet their numbers, they label you a bad worker, rate you low, and use that to justify.

also, they can not enforce the clause about not working in telecom. It would never hold up in court. some people put their severance pay in a different account just in case. They can not deny you the right to make a living. I already consulted a lawyer about this.

Correct. I was a CO Tech and they walked three of us out at the same time. Gave us like an 80 page document and we had 45 days to sign it saying we agreed to their 1 year non compete clause and no working for a contractor for six months, and laughably, that we would not bad mouth the company to anyone. If they caught you working for a competitor they would make you repay your severance and if you bed mouthed them, they would sue you and take back your severance. Basically blackmail. When you have a years pay and unemployment at stake, you don't have much of a choice.

You can look on the HR site for the severance policy for non-represented but that's basically it. Can be walked at any time and must sign an agreement to get severance.
