Thread regarding CenturyLink layoffs

Regarding Enhanced Prem Tech Title

Under article 6 of our contract any new job title has to be bargained for. The job title and wage must be agreed upon. The company decided on their own to disregard the contract by announcing layoffs while posting a new job title enhanced prem techs with their own pay scale and job description. District 7 has already notified the company and sent a letter to them on Tuesday. It states how this is not an option and how this can’t be done without negotiations and it violates the contract. If a network technician is laid off through VSPP or ISVP and offered (forced) the same job under a different title for less pay it will easily be won through arbitration. CWA has demanded they remove the (non bargaining for) job postings immediately on the Lumen website. They will also request back pay for all technicians affected since this violates the contract and can be easily won if the company won’t comply with the existing contract in place. The letter is available on the district website.

Will we have to train our replacements to get the VSPP/ISPP? Or will the company create a clandestine training school in a non CTL state?

Coos Bay is former GTE/Verizon/Frontier and now Ziply, not CTL.

Shouldn't be a surprise at their contractor hiring. Ziply is being ran by former CTL execs and managers.

Gotta disagree with the guy who says they don't want any VSPP techs back. It's been a while but as I recall it was 3 weeks tops until at least three different companies tried to hire me back. Same job, less money. Mountain Telecom just tried to get me to come back as an Engineer. Not interested under any circumstances.

Just told they have already hired enhanced prem techs in Minnesota. Good luck to them they will be the most hated tech on the crew.

The telephone work is 2nd grade level. I know as we wired up cardboard clowns that noses would light up when you touch the pegs where 2+2=4. Knowing that are the executives here even made it to Kindergarten yet? It was so cool in 2nd grade as the phone company came to the school and showed us the future picture phones. These guys were sharp and stressed they had perfect attendance at work. It's hard now days to even show up when they don't want us here anymore.

“Arguing” for a bargained for prem tech title vs. an enhanced prem tech title is the point. You like to throw around insults not realizing you’re argument is for a lesser paid job. The point is WE don’t want any other job title. This union allowed line crews and splicing to go away. Now they’re allowing Net tech and Broadband titles to go away. But here you are making your stand that the union and members want the prem tech title while you should be fighting against losing Net tech positions.

+++++++ NEWS FLASH +++++++++

Your ALL Typewriter repairmen !! The industries days are Numbered----- Old Telco is Gasping its last breaths --- happened inside the house with business systems too........ its happening now for you..... if your not Old and vested, or extremely young and mold-able you should leave...

Then we need to ask ourselves "IF" the company disregarded the contract and made moves anyways why? maybe the magic number has been reached at enough of the bargaining units to cast off the union? With low percentages of employees represented ? Could it be you "last" contract? possibly. The company seems to do as it pleases and nothing is done to actually counter them? Well its a good paycheck, and benefits... if you can numb your mind to the point of just driving around and doing your job and not caring. Kind of just like they do–––"act" like you care and just go through the motions? if your able to live with that. Good Luck

This is one of the last nails in the coffin of company Techs–––expect layoffs and then not having a position to return to because your MOS has been 86'd–––or them telling you the eliminated all CS1 and CS2 positions,,,,however there are some prem tech positions available.... but youll have to bargain for it yeah yeah i know we have the "Contract" hows that working out these days?.....the slide continues to the bottom

So your saying that since I don’t agree with you and I’m hoping the union wins this “enhanced” prem tech dispute I somehow have milked benefits my entire career, want to become a prem tech, I’m lazy and want contractors to do my job for me? You’re an id––t! I’m just choosing to not being negative and wanting this to work out in our favor for everyone involved including you!

|
Post ID: @3ovk+1avYNTCd

Been around since us west too. You sound like one of the guys who’s spent most of his career milking benefits and calls contractors to do his drops for him. Are you looking forward to being a prem tech? Too afraid to climb your lazy a–s up a ladder? You still think this union cares about you other than collecting your dues?

by
|
Post ID: @3sni+1avYNTCd

I’ve been around since US West and you’re right about the Union and the last 20 years. What is being explained is very simple if you take the time to read and stop hyper ventilating for a bit. You sound like a little b*tch who is always complaining. The Union is not bargaining at this point it’s pointing out the obvious. You probably stopped paying dues a long time ago so STFU! What do you care anyways? You sound like all the cry babies every morning about this and that. Nobody is forcing you to stay. Your probably the one who votes yes and complains about every contract.

Post ID: @2hmd+1avYNTCd

Yep, they will have prem techs. And that’s what the union wants? Hahahahaha. As net techs leave the company they will never be hired again. Prem techs will be. And contractors will be doing all the work upto the premise. You really think allowing the prem tech title into the contract wasn’t part of a bigger picture? A whole bunch of prem techs working for peanuts and a whole lot more contractors doing their work for them. This company has been ahead of district 7 for years. The union looks at today while the company lawyers are already 3 years ahead. You’re probably one of the id--ts that thinks giving up bargaining for healthcare was a good thing and was excited to vote yes in the last railroaded contract. 3 days of negotiations and a yes vote. Get the F out of here. This union hasn’t been sh.t in 20 years. But they love to collect dues....hence the quick agreements on anything the company throws out there. Ask district 7 how much is in the strike fund we’ve been paying into since 98 and why they don’t EVER want to go back on strike again.

You've mistaken CWA for a union with some b@11$ or leverage. Bend over and take it, in solidarity!

Post ID: @1nue+1avYNTCd

Well removing the enhanced part is exactly what the Union and it’s members want! And why the union is demanding they remove it from the Lumen website. The Prem tech title is a bargained for position (agreed by both parties) that caps out at $26 in our current contract. They have their own job descriptions and are to remain at the prem which justifies keeping all Network Technicians employed. The company wants to create a job title that doesn’t exist to lay people off and rehire them at cheaper labor. Article 6 in the contract protects its members and exposes what they are doing. The Union is simply reminding the company that they are ready have “enhanced” prem techs that currently work for them and they are called network technicians at wage scale 2. CWA will have no problem exposing this through arbitration.

The prem tech wording was already allowed into the contract by district 7 years ago. The company will remove “enhanced” and call it prem tech.

They need to draw the line in the sand, flaunt the agreement and direct everyone to sit in place till they remove it, go to work, clock in and sit.
