Thread regarding Neiman Marcus Group layoffs

There's an opportunity to reverse the trend of senior women leaving and simply hire the interim General Counsel.

Tracy's backfill is great. But, every time GVR has the opportunity to promote from within he has gone outside. Odds are he will make an external hire that he will fill great about and nobody else will. History will repeat itself again. So very sad.

Hope the candidates read this and come into the org with their eyes wide open.

Eric is very passionate about belonging. Kudos to him. We need that. I wish he was as passionate about everything else it takes to run a company. He pays no attention to anything else. He would be better off in Mimi's role.

Eric is doing his best to foster a positive workplace experience where every executive, employee, and customer feels welcome. Crafting this experience isn’t easy, however; it takes lots of attention, time, and hard work. According to Eric Severson, “Behavior change comes from creating the path of least resistance to doing the right thing.” And, at the end of the day, this path can only be formed by examining and reforming your company’s core values and processes. By analyzing your business’ day-to-day operations, you will quickly see where biases rear their ugly head — and how to get rid of them. So, how can you take concrete steps to forming a more diverse and welcoming workplace today?

Eric smiles a lot whenever GVR does something that makes us cringe. And he will always smile for his public image.

There are external black female organizations anxiously waiting to see what the organization does with this role. When the interim was named it was posted everywhere (think bougie civic organizations),. I believe Pamela Edwards, Tasha and the Dr. Katrice are all member of the same organizations. I’m gonna get my popcorn and watch how GVR handles this media explosion. The “associates” won’t have his back on this one. Eric, how will you smile and support these decisions?

Odds are very high GVR will hire an external head of legal who is a woman. GVR will claim victory - I hired a woman! Love all around! And please don't question the competency of my new hire. She's way better than the current team.
And then the best legal talent will leave because they soon realize the leader isn't all that great except GVR loves her. Or the best talent will get pushed out because they question poor decisions.

We've seen this story before in the merchant organization.

I’m sure a diverse external talent will be hired. That should make you all happy. Leave the recruiting to the experts.

Wow. This makes me very sad. Neimans makes strides with their ERG program yet they are behind the 8 ball when it comes to retaining diverse talent. NY Post, investors and board members- pick up this story...

Tasha! Do it GVR. Show we can trust you to do the right thing!

And the realist reminder: Remember how we celebrated Women's History Month...There's no way the internal female candidate gets the job...

We're celebrating Women's History month in a big way yet I look around and see Lisa, Melissa, Katie, Liz, Sarah, Carrie, Neva and now Tracy leave. So far everyone who has left has been replaced by a man. GVR talks a good game and says love ,celebrate and belong but numbers don't lie.

This is too easy. A great win for NM and a great story - one of our own gets promoted to the top. Tasha hasn't been here too long where GVR can use his tired claim she's tied to the past leadership team.

Great point on GVR hires. And Tasha! This is from another thread about senior women leaving and his own hires who have already left.

Does it really matter if they're SVP or VP????? Seems like a weak defensive answer. What's most concerning is that the people GVR personally hired into key roles are now leaving - Katie, Adam, Chris, Ginger and now Amber - shouldn't he join them?

Agree! She's great! And GVR;s track record of external hires is not that great if we're being honest, He has a more than capable internal candidate ready right now. Hire Tasha!
