Soft line Pay issues?

We have no full time employees left in our soft line departments. I was asked recently to pick up shifts and offered a lead position in men’s apparel. Pay is 13.20 an hour and that seems REALLY LOW for a lead position considering how much I saw them put up with. I know hunting managers make 20+ an hour so why are soft lines shafted so hard? (Also it’s been 3 months without apparel leads).

They believe that hardlines requires more special knowledge and so they pay them more. It some ways that is true, there is a lot of specialized knowledge required to sell g-ns and other hunting hardlines
Yet clothing margins are way higher than hardlines so you would think that they would want to get good people in there and pay them more. They just believe that anyone can sell a shirt. Hard to change the belief on management.
