Thread regarding DeVry Inc. layoffs

Debt Sentence

Student loan default is a traumatic, stigmatizing experience. Because of that, many working people keep the pain of their student loan problems to themselves. Can you feel it? Do you feel any guilt at all too?

So you worked at DeVry, right Dane? That’s why you post here all the time, trying to deal with your own guilt and blaming the rest of us for your failures. Because this site is for employees and ex-employees. Why else would you be here?

@Oracle of the East, you got that right. Adam Looney has been calling out brand names universities for a few years now, selling overpriced advanced degrees.

Here you go, Dahn. Go talk to these guys:

“‘Financially Hobbled for Life’: The Elite Master’s Degrees That Don’t Pay Off” by Melissa Korn and Andrea Fuller, Wall Street Journal, July 8, 2021.

Oh, wait. Columbia is nonprofit, so they get a pass. Never mind.

Seriously, though, does everyone see the misguided aspects of our culture driving the dysfunction that our entire higher education system plays to? Dahn has this right: many students pursuing higher ed in this country are peering into a Venus Fly Trap, but it’s not a DVU thing or a for-profit thing. It’s way bigger. It’s higher ed, the way it’s funded, sold, and leverages the naïveté of the young. Still considering that PhD, anyone?
