Thread regarding JCPenney layoffs

How much do you care?

When I talk to colleagues from my store, most don't care if the store closes. Of course, there is fear because our existence still depends on it, but I want to say that the motivation is low that people care less and less if the store closes.
That's awful.
Moreover, the store manager does not seem much motivated for his job either.

Just curious why you say you will no longer be full-time next year? Is that what you have been told?

9aqa is way off on their prediction, what makes them an expert on retail? There will be a decrease in on line buying aka Amazon. Customers want to shop in store. Amazon knows this, that is why they seek brick and mortar. Like anything else what goes up must come down, online shopping on its way down.

JCP is an anchor store so they do need a FEW Full time workers and managers.

That being said: most mall stores are otherwise going down to ONE full time manager and 3-4 part time supervisors/pt workers. That’s it! That’s the future for some stores. Everyone is slimming their full time staff so they don’t have to pay benefits.

Like the restaurant industry: you will soon see smaller mom/pop stores being forced to close a day (or two) midweek due to staff shortages

But major retailers will never do that. They will force these PART TIME “rolling” supervisors to work one day a week at a nearby location to cover the day. Or if things get REALLY severe they will shut down the location.

The future of retail is doing more with less 😒☹️

I’m one of those employees who also wish they would just shut it down. Most of us will no longer be full time next year so we will be losing our benefits because of the limited hours of operation. I have to say though that I think that is part of the plan and what the new owners want. Should this happen you will see those associates leaving and they are the only ones left that know what’s going on and how things get done.
