Thread regarding Magellan Health Services Inc. layoffs

Promotions are not easy at Magellan

True story, I kid you not. I know a Magellan employee who has been with the company for 20+ years. This person was let go three different times over the years due to various reasons such as downsizing, job elimination, right sizing, department changes, you name it, whatever ridiculous excuse the incompetent management could come up with. But each time this employee persevered and applied for other positions within the company to continue working and contributing. This employee was adaptable and willing to learn new things and take on new responsibilities. A very dedicated and dependable employee. The employee worked many years in a business analyst role and reached out to her manager asking to be promoted to the next title level, a senior business analyst and was flatly rejected because management above the manager said it was not in the budget. Really, to give the employee a title they deserve and worked for and what maybe a few thousand dollars pay increase but no, not possible. Magellan is a joke, steer clear from them. Once absorbed by Centene the employees better hold on to their bootstraps. It will be a ride.

Based on what I read, I see that the individual who wrote this doesn't have management level experience because if he/she did, he/she would know that management doesn't always have control over whether or not promotions can happen! Budget is the main reason promotions can/cannot happen. We may find that the individual is deserving, however, there is no budget to allow for a promotion. Now, I'm not saying that you can't advocate for the individual but even then, you don't always win the battle. The company has to run on a budget, just like you do at home. You can't spend money you don't have.
And to the individual who said "Its going to be so much fun watching management of Magellan Health get wiped out!", you clearly no morals. I can tell you, letting someone go - when it's called for for whatever reason - lack of performance, attendance, etc. it keeps me up at night. I know I will be turning someone's life upside down even though it was on them!
So to say what you said just shows lack of character.
