Thread regarding Kroger Co. layoffs

Kroger to hire 10,000 workers across its grocery brands

I'd like to know if people who were cut are going to be offered these jobs first or not.

"Kroger announced Monday that it will hold a hiring event on Thursday to fill 10,000 jobs across its businesses."

They let stores know there's going to be a walk-through for a reason. They don't want to know what the stores are like on a day to day basis so they can continue impractical staffing levels and fool themselves into believing everything is ok. The customers aren't fooled. There's a reason they flock to better funded grocery stores and only use Kroger occasionally for specials or treat it like a convenience store since there's no traffic getting in and out. Managers need to insist on better retirement benefits, they are going to need them when they all break down at a young age.

The environment is just toxic- they can’t believe their losing good people because of THEIR lack of Leadership- what part of that doesn’t Rodney get?

I find it interesting that in my division. We are closing departments because of staffing issues. My deli closed at 1 pm today. Fuel center closes at 5 everyday. The store down the street closed the Starbucks for a week. Can't hire.
Why is this just ok?
We have stores paying cashiers over $25 an hour and the store is making money.
Crazy.
Our executives just sit and do nothing.

On another subject...
Knowticed all the promotions are all people who never worked in a store?

Hard to hire when you pay $3 to $6 an hour less then every other retailer pays. As for needing that many clerks. I think we are losing employees for 2 reasons pay and work load. They expect everyone to do the job of of 2. It is sad they just except poor conditions. It is ok. Except if there is a walk by executives. Have to hide that from the people making the labor decisions. See the store looks great. Only took 300 hours of ot to make it look that way.
One of our vp's walked stores unannounced. She couldn't believe so many stores were not following best practices (her words). Yes she has never worked in a store before. Not one of them could run a department. Never mind a store.

Surprised about the hiring event especially when they squeeze all the hours out of the stores. Is there really that much of a need?

Why would most of them want to come back? It's much easier to see you were in an abusive relationship once you are out. It would be tough to go back to an even worse situation unless you were really desperate and there's much better jobs out there. Like picking watermelons in 100 degree heat.
