I have been in retail more years than I should! My question is with all the technology we have in 2021, what the heck are managers doing in their office with so call reports, meetings and not helping associates with customer complaints. Back in the day we managers had to do everything by hand putting the same numbers on different reports that took time. If your department was short staff you were there to cover it, even if you were off you stayed or came in. If a customer said the magic words “ I want to speak to the manager”, we came out and talked to them. Not today! I have personally seen a manager sitting at her desk and shopping online, looking at Instagram being asked to come out and talk to a customer and her response you deal with them I’m busy. Until corporate, shrinks their staff and work a full 40 hours and managers actual manage this store will always be in trouble.
One manager today is doing the work of three managers from 10 years ago. They have too much on their plate to effectively run a business.
