Thread regarding IBM layoffs

"Not rich enough to buy cheap things"

I love that idiom. I think IBM can afford cheap workforce for now that works on average well, but only because the company still has some employees who are great. For now, it kind of works.
However, when all the talented and engaged leave, at some point IBM will have to realize that it cannot go further with the cheap and the average. I mean, it can, but it wouldn't be anything like the former IBM.

It means that IBM will fall further and further behind the hyperscalers who have deep pockets and can negotiate component prices down way below what IBM pays.

I think the OP means paying for cheaper lower talent works for now because there is still existing higher talent at IBM, so the average talent level is still passable.
However, in the future when the higher talent leaves, then the average talent will get lower when
there’ll be only lower talent left.

So cheap pay is short sighted.
