Thread regarding Baker Hughes layoffs

Breaking news Aberdeen

Closure of Woodside Road is not confirmed only a proposal. You may say "its done and dusted, its over". This is not the case. Holyrood employment committee and various unions already on the case. This is not over! Instead of rolling over and accepting this you need to stand up and be counted. Its not as easy as just shutting the doors, there are processes and laws to abide. This is when the smart arses come in and say"a d then they'll shut you down". There are many talented guys on that shop floor who deserve at the least a fighting chance. Dont give up on it yet, hold your nerve, fight for it.

Don’t worry guys. The company has a spare $2billion to buy back it’s own shares to help inflate the share price and keep the directors compensation packages looking healthy.

I absolutely got a pay increase to close the plant and move it overseas for a 75% cost savings.
Don’t buy stuff from the discount rack if you don’t believe in capitalism.

You’re only saying this because you’re plant is closing. You weren’t saying anything about all the other plant closures. And you cannot compare plants and people against one another.
There’s no money left in equipment manufacturing. There’s only room for light maintenance and rubber goods, that’s until the competition drives this product out. Which from what I’m hearing in in the nearest future. Your business is getting sent overseas. The competition is still manufacturing in Texas, and they already own the market share. The BH equipment business has priced and performed itself out of business. And there’s no coming back from this, even when made in India and China.
This business just went from high dollar, customized equipment to made in China with Chinese steel and Chinese ethics, and fake Chinese certification documents.

“It’s over!”

BoD office is the best office Baker have globally so why close? Doesn’t make sense to me

Highly skilled people work there and you need a university degree just to get into the workshop. Top class stuff

Aberdeen council willing to pump millions into Woodside road to turn it into a green village where staff can grow their own vegetables and sell them at the village market.

Oil is finished in Aberdeen and climate change is having a huge impact. Did anybody see the rain storms the other day in the middle of summer? Crazy

There is huge demand for organic food in the city right now and the workshop lads can make more money doing that than what they get from Baker. We wish them well

Let’s make the city green again and leave the blackness of the oil industry in the past.

Gordon MP Richard Thomson – whose constituency includes the facility – said: “This news will still come as a devastating blow to the employees affected.

“Along with my MSP colleague Jackie Dunbar, I will be seeking an urgent meeting with senior management to discuss their announcement in early course.

“We will also be contacting the Scottish Government’s PACE Unit (Partnership Action for Continuing Employment) to ensure they are involved at an early stage in supporting the affected employees.

What has holyrood employment committee ever achieved?

The decision to close the facility is proposed (its already been made ,,damage done just by the so called proposal is enough to make it a near certainty) Only chance of stopping this now is if millions come from holyrood and does anyone think that will happen?

Its done and dusted, its off the cliff, just hasn't hit bottom yet. Thats when you have to sell, your house and car, while working 50 hours a week of £8.50. Eventually your marage breaks down, and you end up living in a homeless shelter.
Thats life!

Will the union get it done before or after membership dues$ ?
Union cannot stop plant closure. Just ask General Motors union members.
You will get wet asking for this.

I’m glad Rankin and eventually some others are closing. What’s left of all mid level managers is pooh. Never saw some of the ones saved, ever get anything done, or even lead. They were just bystanders.
