Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

Disconnect between each level of the company

Someone mentioned it in one comment which I liked a lot because it’s a great observation - this is a disconnected corporate culture.
What interests me is has this always been the case and, if not, when did this disconnected culture emerge? I haven’t been here long but this is a real problem that will make me look for new opportunities soon.

This round particularly, I heard more sheep baa-ing the same tunes as Mr Looney.

I thought it would be a better culture initially with Looney - he seemed to genuinely listen. But at the same time, folks have been screaming that the work is too much and evidently it does not return to the ears of the higher levels.

I was with BP for 40 years and every department creates their own empire. The bigger the department the more control and bigger their budget. It’s all a game.

The disconnect has always been there. Probably a bit more pronounced with the reinvent and turnover of senior leaders. Thirteen years of observation...
