Thread regarding Collins Aerospace layoffs

Why don't they call back laid off employees?

Our management is trying to bring new untrained people, spend unnecessary, endanger guality and enforce feeling of lack of job stability among long time employees. Instead of pragmatic, logical and moral- bringing bacedvek trained and efficient laid-off people.
"Genius" idea, of one misguided pencil pusher, demanding from our long time friends to APPLY AGAIN for jobs that they did efficiently for years is morally twisted. If somebody is laid-off and not fired than just call him or her back. Time to quit politics and start financially effective producing.

Pulling a comment from a previous thread - @6gvxn+16M9D41w . I absolutely agree, the only thing I don't understand is the reason why our management is making that mistake.

The strategic plan is to have a Temp-pool of workers (contention) much like what GE did ten years ago with Granite, a subsidiary of GE. Workers bid on short term gig work, and the lowest bidder gets the awarded work. The funny part about this is it was a bust for GE so it will be interesting to watch.

To much fear going on, mangers are in silos trying to protect their favorites. They rather have a temporary employee vs. a Previous employer with a lot knowledge.

The new hires will work for significantly less money than those long term people you’re referring to. It’s always about money, the sooner you figure that out the less confused you’ll be. You don’t understand that they don’t care about quality, or commitment, they care about money and how much it costs them to run the business. When they have shareholder meetings or want to post profit reports, it will look like they’re doing a great job because they’ve saved X dollars this year or next year. They view workers as lego blocks, pull one out and put one in, it’s the same thing to them. Part of the point of them laying people off was to do a small purge of higher paid employees. I don’t know why that’s not obvious to anyone by now.
