Thread regarding Broadcom Corp. layoffs

Morale has never been worse

Yesterday was probably the hardest day for me in more than six years of working here. Morale is too bad. I wonder if there is the anything that could help someone who works hard and loves their job boost their morale here, other than getting an offer from another company?

If you are under 40, try to leave and find a job outside ASAP. If you are above the golden age line. Just try your best to stay as long as possible to minimize future layoff and new job gap burden. HOC will max his money in pocket during his last breath in Broadcom to cure his son. Good luck everyone

If you want innovation, go somewhere else. If you want boring tech and a steady paycheck until Hock decides to slash high salaries, stay for a few years.

dude...there's a sheetload of jobs out there. if you're generally 40ish and under, and have skills...why are you here? as another poster said. this place isn't about employee culture or happy talk. you do the work, so as your told, collect $. of course the side show could end any day now. so weigh the risks/returns. anyone 6" and over is fu---d. unless you saved enough to retire in the next 12-18 months....

Something is definitely happening in my BU, despite record profits. There seems to be an open effort to target and push out older/higher level employees. They're not even trying to hide it. Not to mention that they're shuffling people around for the sake of causing chaos. I have a feeling it is because the peak number of RSUs are about to come due in 2022.

Octane is here to make money by making employees slaaves; not make employees happy

There is no moral!!!
Everyday I wish it's my last day, but I'm not finding suitable role outside. Doesn't mean I got best role. Willing to get the pay cut.

OP what happened yesterday in particular that got you demoralized. I do realize it’s bunch of things over the years, but like to understand what recent events are driving your morale low?

My advice: if you are in. 30s, start to work on your resume, no need to do an emotional exit, but planned exit to a high paying company, it’s tough but possible with effort / planning. Also, ok to take a small pay cut, as it’s about long term prospects…

If you are in 40s and not at level 6 or in Mgmt, same advice!

If you are at L6, or in Mgmt have xM of RSUs, then suck it up for 2-3 years, still plan your exit, but with no urgency. Don’t pay too much attention to things that bc is doing, no phones at desk etc etc. Yes it sucks but there’s a reason stock is trading at current levels and you are a beneficiary, so change how you look at things - as BC won’t change ;)

Good luck!

I'm surprised you lasted 6 years, move on if you find something with both a better overall environment (not hard) and future prospects. You'll have to put some effort into looking though and it should be better. It's only worth staying if you're pretty senior and making really good money.

I came to Broadcom from a previous takeover. 3 things have happened since. I've made more money than ever before. I've learned to trust no one. Only Give 100% when 100% is needed-- don't sweat the stuff that doesn't matter.
