Thread regarding Accenture layoffs

From the top down, we’re prioritizing mental health and well-being

I read this press release. I think it’s great they have hired a Chief Health Officer, but do we really think the company’s most important message to our people is “You matter.” The release mentions “We need to normalize taking care of yourself, and we support you in whatever that means for you.”

I’ve seen and heard of people having requests denied when tied to mental health, wellness and advocating for themselves. At the end of the day, it will come down to your direct leadership, Accenture will ensure you are delivering over any mental health at stake. I feel like this company wants to be the catch all... most profitable but the most empathetic and “human” but in business does it all actually go hand-in-hand? Smart strategic move given that the Persons with Disabilities, especially those this invisible disabilities have been marginalized, ignored, pushed out and made to feel less than for a long time at Accenture, while using their own ailments against them in performance ratings.

Meanwhile the head of many departments, including the one over the people, continue to post pictures of their yachts on Facebook. They talk about their homes, all the remodeling they are doing on their second home, how their HOA's in NY are 4K per month, about all the construction workers slaving away on their houses in the hamptions, how their first year at accenture they made 3 million.....on an on an on. Meanwhile they treat people very badly.....literally stealing lives.

A few years back, as a second year consultant I've been on a project where I worked over a dozen consecutive weekends (both Sat and Sun). The partner miscalculated the commitment and it was one of those death marches where we had to make things right and prove to the client that we are this and that. Anyhow, some people quit, and I've developed a major case of anxiety as my manager was freaking out constantly and she was pushing us to do unrealistic things. Nobody pushed back on the partner though, and honestly it was only the client staff that was saying that we are doing things that we should not be doing and we'll all get sick (which more or less panned out). Anyhow, the partner delivered, hit the bonus #s, bought another sports car and had another kid. Everyone else got screwed. They do not care about us, period. No matter what Julie says and what fine HR game they play, they do not care about a single person here...

Stop complaining and get back to work. You're just a number.
