One thing I enjoy about this company is job security. However, ever since original Chubb Limited offers, I've been on pins and needles. Even when it all fell through the feeling didn't go away. Takeovers ALWAYS mean significant layoffs, whether it's Chubb or somebody else. Not to mention that it would be a completely different company with different values, who knows how things would look afterward. Is anybody else worried or am I just stressing over nothing?

If there is a Merger, it almost always means lay-offs. Having said that, Hartford does lay-off almost every month and in that sense there is no difference.
In the case of merger, the numbers are higher as they have to eliminate duplicate jobs from the two companies. Without merger, in order to meet share holder "numbers", automation etc. etc., they have to regularly get rid of employees from their payroll.
