However, what happens when this company needs talented people? How will it attract them then?
I know a lot of people who turn their heads at the very mention of the name of this company. Perhaps the leadership needed to think things through before they drove away the best people in various ways.
The guys listed in that post (apart from Pat) isn't really a selection of 'stellar' people to begin with - I doubt many will miss them.
This company has gone to sh-t in the past 3 years.
We can't even find a CEO outside given golden parachute, you would bet a lot of people would love to be a CEO of this size company. Nope, no one bother want to come here. that tells you how toxic it is.

That's so funny. None of my 5,000 LinkedIn connections will respond to the job listings when I post about them. I can't get the referral bonus that VMware offers. The fact that they keep offering these bonuses shows that qualified people are not applying. If qualified people are waiting to work for VMware I should be getting all sorts of inquires, yet when I direct message my contacts they say no thanks, except for one or two who are not having any luck elsewhere.
For a LOT of people VMware is the pinnacle of company, working for the 'mothership' is an ambition for a lot of people. Plus let's face it, VMware does 'generally' a good job in keeping layoffs under wraps as the guys leaving are tied by contracts to shut up about it and only when tech websites specifically ask they get the usual 'restructure' spiel.
So bottom line - there's always a lot of people just waiting to work for VMware .. even if you don't see it.
You do not need very talented people when you evolve from innovative industry leading company to an aging cash cow. Companies at this stage hire the lowest cost resources who are just competent enough to keep things afloat while they milk the last of the revenue.
How many cuts this time? Getting ridiculous.
