Thread regarding Giant Eagle layoffs

Left GE corporate about 2 months ago...

No longer waking up in the middle of the night with heart palpitations, no longer having panic attacks because of the insane work load and no resources to complete it, no longer fear having my job moved to India, firced to train my replacement and be shown the door.

It feels good. I hope the CTO falls flat on his lying face with all his "transformations" and talk of becoming a "technology company" instead of a simple regional grocery store.

Beware of the company taking out giant loans to fuel his ridiculous fever dreams. Employees will pay the price.

Actually the IT at Giant Eagle has been cr-p for way more than 10 years. They have servers inside stores that look like they’ve been in them since the mid-1990’s and got a lot of dust bunnies in them. Then the software on their POS systems are antiquated. I found out what they use from working in the cash office. When I first started, they used IBM SurePOS which was bought out by Toshiba. This software is soooo old, they stoped making software updates for them and Toshiba is phasing them out. You could tell it’s old because they look like computer software from the early 90’s too. Additionally, they had to put tons of software patches on the POS terminals because the software was so old it didn’t recognize certain components to the registers and they had to pour tons of money into Toshiba to make these patches which isn’t cheap.

IT at GE has been a mess for at least the last 10 years. I don't see it changing any time soon.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, no longer having to work with the San Fran based app developer that couldn't give a cr-p about being part of GE proper, and causing nothing but delays and conflict because they just ignore what the corporate side is doing...

CTO and his toadies he brought over from Kroger actually compared GE to Wal-Mart and Amazon! Ahahahahahahahaha...
