Buyout rumors are flying in the Southern region. They say UP has a diversity problem that is causing concern to shareholders. Buyout the old guys with 5 weeks vacation, hire the diverse group they need? Makes sense. Any thoughts?

They will fire all of You.
No buyout period
There are absolutely zero buyout rumours outside of this silly little posting. A complete fabrication.
@3qsc you got that 100% right! Nobody can explain it better than that! This site was just summarized in 1 paragraph! WELL SAID!
@3mkl No, I didn’t.
Explaining that someone (a person, institution, etc.) is using a concept as a public relations tool doesn’t demonstrate the relevance (or lack thereof) of the concept in a particular context, in this case “diversity”.
My first comment was in response to the context, namely the identification of diversity as a target of cultural grievance. That is what renders it irrelevant.
They play lip service to diversity. The shareholders and management don’t care one bit about this other than as a talking point. The only reason they put any money or effort into this is to pacify the government regulators. As long as they show they are “making an effort” the government will stay off their back. There is no pressure on UP with regard to diversity. Where have you read anything about a diversity problem? Any news reports? There has been no publicity about a diversity problem at all. This is just another made up, speculative posting with no substance.
@3kql Wait a minute! I think you should go back and reread your post about why you think diversity is irrelevant. You literally just posted why it's relevant!
“Maybe you should try explaining the diversity issue to the company instead of us.”
Not my job @3lrt.
To your question: UP is focused on it in part because it makes for a good talking point. Note that you often hear it along with terms such as “carbon neutral” in public statements. Most of their actions around diversity & inclusion are performative in nature. There is very little of actual substance.
@3qsc Maybe you should try explaining the diversity issue to the company instead of us. I personally don't know of any agreement employee that thinks the UP is nice at all. Half of the agreement people I do know already left the company. If diversity is irrelevant, then why is the UP focused on it?
@OP (and everyone else):
Stop complaining about diversity. It’s irrelevant. Nobody of any race or gender with qualifying experience and education wants to (or has to) work at UP. The only people who think UP is a nice gig are agreement/craft employees who didn’t go to college, and they have a point; nobody else will pay them as much to do as little with nothing but a high school diploma, and (maybe) a trade certificate.
Same for the junior managers. Most have second-rate qualifications from second-rate schools. The ones who graduate from reputable schools use UP as resume fluff and leave within their first year.
TL;DR: Nobody wants your cr---y agreement labor job with cr---y pay and average benefits.
No different than past ten years. Put with the overpaid lazy old and in with the young.
They will fire you instead of paying you a buyout . That is the UP way
Buyouts?? This post makes NO sense at all, considering they're trying to convince the people that are still working for them to spread the word to friends and family to apply at the UP.
I wonder how diverse the shareholders are? Let’s start this experiment at the top with a member of the alphabet group hired in Fritz’s position and then work the way down!
Fritz stated a couple of years ago that UP would not do any more buyouts. It’s easier to layoff and then hire more employees. Forget any buyouts, just not going to happen.
UTU was bought and corrupt.
So expect any buy out.
Just will fire you. UP is known for paying labor relations.
How else can they get to 40% diversity by 2030? They can't slot them in at the top of the roster. Wall Street is saying on average the stocks of companies with diverse employees are 5% higher.
I don’t know about buyouts but I’m sure there are payoffs. No way our Union officials are being bought out aka paid off. Oh your claim was denied well were working on it aka your outta luck. Submit you claim again and if it’s denied we’ll handle it meaning it’s going in the garbage and that’s it for you and oh by the way our dues are going up next month for the because L.C are going to Vegas for meeting aka a big part where nothing ever gets accomplished. Sorry for the rant just sick of weak Union that can’t even get agreed upon wages paid.
BS rumor. Nothing solid.
It cracks me up with all the hate for certain locations. I’m sure my post won’t be on here long because some a-s clown will end up deleting it like all the other post I’ve seen deleted. We work for a company that won’t maintain their locomotives. A lot of things are deferred until a later date so they have power to run their trains. Once this company changes CEOs the new person will have a sh-t show to clean up
What the phuuuck you smooooking son? The u.p is not buying anyone out! Between Covid and shiiiitty aaass engines waiting on parts and the crraaap that comes out of North platte? Geeeeez, smooooke another one!
You really think the stockholders care about how diversity loos like? You think they would ok taking money out of the companies profits to buy-out employees in order to hire and train new employees, spending even more money? If you believe this, I have some very valuable swamp land I would like to sell you…..because obviously you believe anything!!!
Everyone just needs to go in a check the "non binary" box in the SAP portal...
Have everyone do it and we'll have the most diverse company in the country
They can't seem to get anyone to apply as it is
pure bullcorn posting
Ahh the old buy out rumors LOL. Some old timer dying to retire spreading BS. UP pay someone extra that's funny.
No, post doesn’t make sense. I work in the Southern region and haven’t heard any of this. Sounds like something someone made up to generate comments.
