Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Mixed feelings

Now that everyone is talking about layoffs I’m a little anxious because I’d rather find a new job while I still have a job.
On the other hand, I am so tired of this place that I secretly wish to get the package as soon as possible. I don't know which feeling will prevail...

I didn’t get my package cuz I didn’t sign paper. I was crushed. Couldn’t think straight with kids tuition and mortgage payments. Can I go back now and get it? Maybe I need a lawyer. What’s statute of limitations? I gave GE many good years only to be kicked to curb for younger model that ended up quitting cuz they couldn’t handle pressure. Does GE value experience? I’d say not any more. There are a lot of jobs out there now.

GE offered a job to a young engineer in Greenville SC. The engineer and his wife resigned from their existing jobs and relocated to Greenville. They found a house they loved and bought it in Greenville. Within a month of signing on their new dream home GE eliminated the young guys position due to restructuring.

@5asx+1eNMo8Xz you are 100% correct. In fact it's totally unhealthy. Both physically and mentally. Sadly I know of several people who are like this and I don't know how they can willingly go through life like that. Some people are simply of the mindset that they are in control of their life and others believe they have no power at all. I choose to be in control of my own life. GE can do what it wants and so will I.

It’s not normal to be constantly worrying about losing your job. GE money is good, but it ain’t that good. Find employment elsewhere and live without anxiety.

You'll be better off if you are willing to relocate. Most of those who get laid off, will stay put in their area.

I was able to get the package and quit. Don't be a noob you can get severance and stuff and quit at GE if you work it right. Good luck

You'll have much better leverage if you start applying around while still at GE.

The package won’t be what you think it will be keep that in mind. Don’t worry either way if you leave now or wait you will be competing with everyone who is laid off with you. If you leave sooner than later your odds of good employment are better. but I can already tell your staying for the layoff like everyone else because your weak and scared. Then you will come back IF (and that’s a big If)there is a call back. The unskilled d-mb ones always return for more let downs. Ha Ha Ha
