Thread regarding Norfolk Southern Corp. layoffs

Attendance policy points system.

Bnsf is in a battle. As a NS employee I heard we are getting the same system in the second quarter. We need to stand up and preemptively strike with them!!!! Dear smart/utu and blet I vote to band together as a whole craft across all railroads in solidarity. I'm in favor of a strike. Employees need to stick together, if bnsf loses this battle it is a legal ruling allowing NS to implement the same system. Take the fight to them before we have to go on the defensive. Transportation employees need to unite.

Yes, if I were to only look at the weekend mark offs and young, single people marking off FMLA I would be in favor of increased steps to improve attendance. But, there are the few who need to mark off regularly due to a very ill spouse. It's not what I want, it's not what she want's, but is all the same necessary. I am working my dream job. The price on the ones I love is heavy. I consider myself forced to retire because there is no provision to help, but rather punish employees in my position. There is no compassion, no empathy, nor understanding towards an employee in that position. I love my job despite the in lack of graditude for my service. Yet I must retire in order to meet my obligation to a vow to stand by in sickness and in health. I hope managements intolerance of human needs be reconsidered before my decision becomes final. We are not all those who mark off for personal enjoyment yet, we are all treated as well as the worst employment deserves.

According to a Local Chairman in my area, none of the management he talks to has heard anything about points system coming to NS. The only people talking about it are the workers. Shanty talk basically. So believe the hype when seen please!

The one I always liked the best is we’re working a full force on a holiday. Then there wasn’t a thing to work on. Never convince me they didn’t do it on purpose.

When everyone hired on it was pretty much explained in black and white........this is a 24/7 operatiin......meaning weekends/Holidays, unusual Offdays, etc........its not like we were not told from the begining, at least at my Hiring session. But I do agree with another Poster forced OT is wrong they did it to themselves.

The battle's already lost before it began. Your union will tell you "Be glad you have a job". The end.

I have no problem with working when you are supposed to, but I do have one with forcing ot and holidays. Why should anyone miss time with their family because this POS company cut too deep and have no clue how to manage a company. The higher ups get nights, weekends, and holidays with their families. I'll do my schedule but fu-k them if I don't want to do more! Life is too short to work it all away.

Go to work like you are supposed to and it doesn’t matter does it??? I haven’t missed a day in 17 years. Just a reminder Conway is still KiNg!

Just go to work, don't be the dip sh-t that calls off every holiday or special events. 15 years railroad never had an attendance issue. Will emergencies come up, YES. But claiming emergencies only on holidays??? Come on. Sh-t can the ones that call off all the time. Replace them with someone willing to work.

Won’t matter. “Carrier has the right”. That’s all we ever heard.

Is FMLA counted in the new points system?

This wouldn't even be in consideration if it wasn't for the same stupid fu--s that's are off at every terminal every weekend. Same 10-15 guys off K,S, or P constantly.

It is like the gold star system for kids except in reverse. To many gold stars and discipline/ firing. Sick during the week point sick on the weekends or holiday 2 points, breavement point, miss call point the assignt a point value to not being available to work, I hear the 48 hour bump will also have point values. Cross the treashhold for allotted points and bam you are in trouble.
