Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Time to move on

It's not easy for me to quit but I finally realized it is the right time. If I'm to stay here, I'll never get to be the kind of engineer I've always wanted to be. VMware put a break on my career progression and it's been like that for a few years. I finally realized I have to move on to be able to fulfill my goals. I'm scared to leave, but it's time.

if you are young < 30 and at vmware, especially the known racism BUs like sebu velo , you are destroying your own career.

Yep. When you are young at the beginning if your career, it is fairly easy to move on. When you are old, at the peak of your career, it is not so easy...

Fair play to you. I was in same position at VMW in a different department. I left after 10 years and flourished, my career advanced significantly. The companies technology in the main is awesome but it’s getting a bit tired now, even with all the acquisitions etc. it’s all got a bit bloated. Many of my old colleagues are still there and I wonder if they really believe it’s a company for life. There’s far many other opportunities in life. It’s worth trying different things. We only get one chance of life When a company gets to a particular size it’s challenging to stand out from the crowd, so you have to make your own luck.

Good luck with whatever you do, be brave and it will be awesome.
