Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

It's a numbers game

Nobody should consider themselves safe when layoffs are nothing but a numbers game. It has nothing to do with performance and everything to do with the company getting rid of those who earn the most and then finding enough people in the low and medium brackets (especially when it comes to age) to balance it out to avoid accusations of age discrimination. It's that simple. Which means that no matter how well you perform, it's a random number that decides whether you'll stay or be let go.

They have a special trick they use sometimes to F#^! some older higher paid managers.
They transfer them to a store THEY KNOW they are going to close. Keep an eye on that one....

Totally agree! We are numbers; they don’t care if they destroy your life and the lives of your family. Knowledge, experience, dedication, loyalty…..none of that matters!

Exactly why they are failing. The people that had the relationships and bringing in the sales are no longer there. They might have been making more but their sales were also significantly more. You have to spend money to make money.. They need to sell to someone that cares. I'm sorry but what SP does to companies just to make themselves wealthy is a crime. It should be illegal. They should have laws that these greedy venture capitalists have to follow. They have destroyed good companies just so they can continue to line their pockets. It's wrong in so many ways!!
