Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

List of reasons why…

I was unhappy working for Staples for a multitude of reasons and relieved when I was severed recently. Would love to hear reasons why others were unhappy…. Pay? Your Manager? Benefits? What made people so unhappy at Staples that folks like myself are truly relieved to have been let go…?

Awful management, constantly changing direction on priorities, benefits suck, pay doesn’t even come close to other competitors in the area.

Jump ship before there isn’t enough room for you in The remaining few lifeboats.

It was difficult to work under the fear of layoffs all the time. I had some great bosses over the years but the last one was terrible. Staples put people in the wrong positions and Associates suffered for it. And feeling like just a number added to why people were unhappy. And I agree about the no communication and no merit increase. It’s really too bad what happened to that company….they got rid of the most talented, knowledgeable and experienced employees just to meet their stupid numbers.. That was their downfall!

Management doesn't care in Canada. They cut commissions and just don't care. People do more when they feel valued. For most of us we stay because at one time it was a good company. Since MC took over in Canada there is no value for sales people. The top use to fight for us, now we have no one. We use to work to be on the top 100 employers of canada and now its all about capital investment not employees. It is laughable they dont see why people leave. They have hiring fairs, why not focus on the people you have first. So many good people with so many good skillsets and have to leave to be valued. Whoever is left in Canada is only waiting for a severance, and that shows in how they care and manage employees. The worst management ever. Didn't use to be like that. Sycamore is a company that buys companies to cut up and sell. Start looking its the right time.

My Manager was just a self centered mouthpiece who bragged about being fired 8 times before working at Staples. What an accomplishment!!! Do I need to say more? Merchandising was a land of misfits!

Glad to see this Company implode after SP took over with all their great ideas! I’m just glad Tom can’t see what happened to his once great company!

I'll mirror the same thoughts. Bad management, terrible pay and A toxic culture that likes to pretend it's something that it's not. It's not right how that paid us all vastly different amount of money for the same amount of work. It's hard to give your all when you know someone doing your same job is making 20k more a year just because they are in another state.

If you were unhappy, why did you wait to be "severed"?
