Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

Huntsville, AL

Why is Boeing there, why are they always hiring for the same positions there, and why won’t they pay for relocation for the people hired to work there?

Asking for a friend.

That’s where the Starliner project are primarily located. They move the work out of Puget Sound to places like Huntsville and see how successful that’s been. The accountant who run Boeing think you can layoff all your senior engineers replaced level 1 new college grads are not lose any expertise.

@4npc Not saying this is a good business practice on boeing's part at all. Just saying this is the way boeing operates. Operating shorthanded has always been their m.o. As long as they can save money now they're willing to wait as current group members will be forced to pick up the slack. Eventually they'll find some native Alabaman or S Carolinian to accept the position or someone facing the loss of their job from out of state. It's the boeing way post-1997 unfortunately.

@2ahy Some of the positions have been open for almost two years. Not disagreeing with you, but this doesn’t seem to be working for them. Maybe the goal is to keep the positions open and continue interviewing candidates forever. They wouldn’t be the first company to do so.

FYI: most people who attend college in Alabama leave the second they get their degrees. I wouldn’t count on a large pool of qualified applicants if I were hiring there.

@ifz They're prepared for it if need be. But they already know that some Alabama born and raised recent college grad will jump at the chance to work in their homestate. At whatever depressed wage is being offered to boot !!! Or someone with a family &mortgage to support facing a boeing layoff ? How do you think they got S. Carolina up and running ? I personally know many people who were in that position who are now unwilling residents of north charleston !!!

@pca Then Boeing should prepare for those positions to remain vacant for a very long time. No qualified professional is going to spend their own money to move to a place like Alabama.

They don't pay for re-lo's unless you are a manager. Thought process for workerbees is they aren't responsible for anything other than providing you a job. If you want that job, go RE-LO yourself !!! Boeing has had a plant in Huntsville for 60 years long before airbus was a twinkle in the EU's eye.
